The integration provides the necessary provisions to bring comprehensive data from DOT, Kusama, and their associated system chains and parachains to Dune’s powerful analysis tools.
Dune, a leading platform for visualizing crypto data, has partnered with Colorful Notion, an experienced indexer and data provider in the Polkadot (DOT) ecosystem. This partnership marks a new era of accessibility and understanding for Polkadot users, as they can now observe detailed analytics for the blockchain as well as Kusama (KSM) (often described as DOT’s wild cousin) on Dune.
The integration, made possible by the passing of Polkadot OpenGov Referendum #366 funds in January 2024, provides the necessary provisions to bring comprehensive data from DOT, Kusama, and their associated system chains and parachains to Dune’s powerful analysis tools.
This milestone became necessary with the increasing demand for transparent and user-friendly data insights in the crypto space. Therefore, users can now access Polkadot and Kusama relay chains on the crypto data platform, as well as AssetHub for DOT, Astar, Bifrost, Hydradx, Interlay, and Centrifuge parachains!
At the core of this collaboration is Colorful Notion’s understanding of the Polkadot ecosystem, developed through over two years of active participation. Their flagship project, substrate-etl, is an extensive index of Polkadot and Kusama data stored in Google BigQuery, covering two relay chains and over 70 indexed parachains.
Sourabh Niyogi, CEO and co-founder of Colorful Notion, expressed excitement and enthusiasm for the partnership, stating:
“We are thrilled to bring the vibrant Polkadot ecosystem together with the Dune community. Our mission has always been to shed light on the complexities of the Polkadot and broader Substrate and Web3 ecosystem, and this partnership is a testament to that commitment.”
On the platform, users can now explore the previously inaccessible depths of on-chain features within the Polkadot and Kusama relay chains, as well as six selected parachains. This includes decoded Substrate block data tables, extrinsics (blockchain transactions), calls, events, transfers, and detailed snapshots of storage maps. The data is updated hourly, offering unprecedented insights into the inner workings of these dynamic networks.
Fredrik Haga, co-founder and CEO of Dune, emphasized the high demand for data on the crypto platform and the significance of Colorful Notion’s expertise in the ecosystem. He said:
“There has always been more demand for data on Dune than we can handle ourselves. This groundbreaking partnership with Colorful Notion not only brings Polkadot and Kusama data to Dune but also their deep understanding of the ecosystem. Our mission is to make crypto data accessible, and we’re excited to support the Polkadot ecosystem in that endeavor, alongside Colorful Notion.”
Dashboard Showcasing Integration Potential
To showcase the potential of this integration, Colorful Notion’s team has created initial dashboards demonstrating Dune’s capabilities for the Polkadot relay chain and selected parachains. These dashboards include the Polkadot staking activity, which highlights how staking rewards are indexed, calculated, and finalized on the blockchain network, as well as factors that can affect reward rates. They also included Polkadot’s referendum voting analysis, governance, Interlay, assetHub, and HydraDX, the largest DEX on the blockchain.
By April and May, Dune will expand its coverage to include the full range of Polkadot parachains, leveraging Colorful Notion’s comprehensive and accurate data. This expansion will provide the users with unparalleled access to Substrate data, assisting them in their analysis, decision-making, and result-sharing endeavors.
As the Polkadot ecosystem continues to attract a growing user base, the partnership between Dune and Colorful Notion is a significant step towards democratizing data access and fostering entry into this innovative blockchain solution.
